Undeniable Postcolonial Truths: Race, Class Gender in Michelle Cliff's Abeng

In her novel Abeng, Michelle Cliff intertwines a story of belonging, inclusion, and family that emerges from a quest for gender and cultural identity. A postcolonial study of the British settlement in Jamaica, Abeng focuses on the historical truths of colonialism. This paper will analyze the ways in which through the intersections of gender, ethnicity, and class the character discover their new identity.
