Naturalizing Epistemology
Kara D. Boschert
Dr. Chad Mohler, Faculty Mentor
While conceptual analysis is still the most common method epistemologists use when theorizing about knowledge and justified belief, we have reason to think that a naturalized epistemology, which gleans insight from empirical investigation, shows more promise than traditional methods. More specifically, looking at knowledge in biological terms gives us a unique perspective on our epistemic strengths and weaknesses. In addition, a biological perspective in epistemology would provide further support that the traditional armchair approach, theorizing independently of empirical investigation, may not be as trustworthy as we would like.
