Food Security in South Africa

Food security developed as a problem in South Africa with the application of Apartheid policies. Even after democracy, issues within the agriculture sector are prevalent. The country has adequate resources for its entire population to be well fed, but access to enough nutritious food remains a serious problem. This research shows that improved food security may come from drastic reforms in the agriculture sector, urban farms, and niche markets. With increased funds and advantageous policies in effect, food security does not have to be such a detrimental problem in South Africa.
