Asian's Perception of African American Based off the Cinema
Jonathan A. Hamilton
Dr. Huping Ling, Faculty Mentor

Before foreigners move to American from any other country, their perception of another race is usually affected what they hear from their parents, and or what they see in the movies. This study will explore how Asian perception of African American is shaped based off the cinemas they see before coming to America. While there is no specific role that African Americans play in cinemas, the perception should vary from person to person. I hypothesis that since most main stream movies shown over in Asian countries are usually Caucasian based, with African Americans playing small roles, these perceptions usually form stereotypes. This study will use a qualitative interview methodology to investigate Asian perception of African Americans based off the cinemas they have seen.
