The Effect of Text-based Journal Prompts on Student Journal Completion
Ashley S. Kleinsorge♦
Dr. Barbara Price, Faculty Mentor
The purpose of this research is to assess whether or not a different format of a journal prompt will positively affect student -completion of journals. Students will primarily engage in activities and tasks that are already a part of their Communication Arts course. Currently, the students are assigned a short task for five minutes time at the beginning of class. They are required to write a 35- word response to a question that relates to the days lesson. For my research, instead of answering a question, students will be prompted to free-write in response to a given text. Texts include news articles, poetry, quotations and excerpts. They are encouraged to make text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections.
