Asian American Women in Academia
Michael L. Holmes
Dr. Huping Ling, Faculty Mentor

This research analyzes the presence and absence of minorities in academia specifically focusing on Asian American women. Although we know that Asians have been a staple in the United States just as other ethnicities, there is a severe lack of Asian Americans in higher education. Where have they all gone? This discourse investigates the fields in which Asian Americans typically pursue and the reasoning behind these decisions. Is academia a less desirable career? The scope of this research will be limited to the employments statistics in Missouri as well as Truman State University. With the help of recorded interviews featuring Truman professors and students, surveys that determine which fields Asian Americans study, I hope to determine their places in the workforce.
