Description: The Truman State Universitys chapter of Eta Sigma Gamma has been advocating for a smoke-free policy change within our campus community. The chapter educated the campus, conducted forums, met with committees, completed awareness campaigns, and supported coalitions. Trumans Faculty Senate, Staff Council, Student Government, and Benefits Committee issued resolutions that supported the implementation of a smoke-free campus policy. Objectives: A 100% smoke-free policy to be implemented. Discussion: Our efforts have been somewhat successful. The new policy requires smokers to stay 25 feet away from any entrances/exits to all campus buildings. The next step is to work toward a 100% smoke-free campus. Implications: Smoke-free campus policies would likely reduce smoking prevalence, reduce cigarette consumption, and increase quit attempts among faculty, staff, and students. Conclusions: The best method of protection from the dangers of secondhand smoke is to create a tobacco-free environment inside campus buildings as well as outdoors on campus-grounds.
