The Rhythm of Life in South Africa
Kelsey L. Smith
Dr. Elaine McDuff, Faculty Mentor

There has been evidence of the use of music since the very beginning of civilization, and South Africa is no exception. Its culture has been rooted in music, and music has played a significant part in its history, both as a connecting factor across different groups of people and as a way to spur social change. This paper examines historical evidence of the influence of music on daily life and South African culture in general. I also look into the modern day use of music, and provide real life examples of the influence of music from my own trip to Cape Town.
