Corissa P. Lennon
Dr. Chad Montgomery, Faculty Mentor

Wakonda State Park, in Lewis County Missouri, is comprised of the only sand prairie habitat in the Missouri State Park system. There are many species specific to the sand prairie habitat, some of which are species of conservation concern in Missouri. I conducted the first survey of reptile and amphibian species diversity and abundance in the park since establishment in 1960. I conducted surveys using coverboard arrays of tin, wood and carpet, drift fence arrays, aural surveys, and opportunistic diurnal and nocturnal survey. I identified 7 species of reptiles including, Chrysemys picta, Trachemys scripta, Chelydra serpentina, Lampropeltis calligaster, Coluber constrictor, Nerodia sipedon, and Heterodon platirhinos. We also identified 7 species of amphibians including, Hyla versicolor, Rana catesbeiana, Lithobates sphenocephalus, Rana clamitans, Acris crepitans, Anaxyrus americanus, and Anaxyrus fowleri. Study is continuing by conducting aural frog call surveys during Spring, 2011.
