Abstract: The purpose of this study was to expand the body of knowledge found on exercise techniques, using two tools of grip strength therapy. Researchers compared the grip strength therapy technique of a standard hand gripper to that of a racquetball by evaluating grip strength, measured by a dynamometer, after exercising with the tool on a weekly basis. The target population consisted of seniors (N=20), ages 55 and older, residing in Kirksville Manor Care. Participants completed an assessment sheet which included demographic information, the grip strength technique randomly assigned, and weekly exercise evaluations. Grip strength results were assessed using SPSS. The overall grip strength gains (for right and left hands combined) for the participants exercising with the racquetball exceeded that of the standard hand gripper with a 139.47% gain compared to a 40.78% gain.
