"What Will Influence the Heart": Goethe's Faust in Nineteenth-Century German Vocal Music

Scores of musical composers have used Johann Goethe’s drama Faust as a source of text for lieder, oratorios, operas, and choral works. This presentation will address the treatment of Faust Parts I and II in German vocal music in the nineteenth century. The presenter will perform and discuss works by Beethoven, Schubert, and Robert Schumann.
