Reconnecting the Mind to the Body
Amanda M. Hereford
Dr. Becky Becker, Faculty Mentor
After a tragic accident, the brain of a young girl was disconnected. She suffered from a traumatic brain injury, which, according to the Brain Injury Association of America, is defined as "as insult to the brain, not of a degenerative or congenial nature but caused by an external physical force, that may produce a diminished or altered state of consciousness, which results in an impairment of cognitive abilities or physical functioning." My research poses to expand on the inability experienced by victims of head injuries. Just over a year after my accident, I would like to share some of my research about traumatic brain injuries as well as my personal experiences of recovery.
