The purpose of this study was to determine the relationships between selected anthropometric dimensions and flutter kick performance. Seven anthropometric measures of collegiate swimmers (15 M, 23 F) at a rural Midwestern university were determined prior to field testing. Average kick velocity was determined from the mean of 8 repetitions of 50 yards maximal flutter kick performances. Independent samples t-test show men and women were not significantly different in kick velocity (p = 0.45). Highest zero-order correlations with flutter kick were calf circumference (r = 0.50), ankle extension (r = 0.43), and thigh:calf circumference ratio (r = 0.37). A stepwise regression analysis selected four items that best predict flutter kick velocity. It was concluded that the combination of several anthropometric dimensions may account for as much as 55% of the variance of flutter kick time.
