Hospice 2000: Volunteer Training and Service Program

Eta Sigma Gamma has provided numerous volunteers for the Adair County Hospice program. Interested members were trained to meet the objectives set forth by the Hospice 2000 program. A hospice program provides palliative care to terminally ill patients and supportive services to patients, their families, and significant others in both home and facility-based settings. Physical, spiritual and emotional care is provided during the last stages of illness, during the dying process, and during bereavement by a medically-directed interdisciplinary team consisting of patients, their families, professionals, and volunteers. Trained members contribute time to terminally ill patients as companions and care-givers. Gammans also work side by side with the Hospice 2000 staff in the office by performing administrative and developmental functions. Trained Gamma Rho members are viewed as a vital part of the program and are kept up to date with the information pertaining to the patients with whom they have contact.
