Ms. Linda M. Warren and Dr. John Perrachione, Faculty Mentors
Despite decreased costs of summer tuition, Truman summer enrollment continues to decrease. To determine the reason, we administered a survey with these objectives: 1) What is the best way to increase summer enrollment and awareness? 2) Why do students take summer courses? and 3) Why do they take them at Truman or somewhere else? Students feel registration dates need to be advertised for summer courses further in advance. Many students responded that faculty advisors rarely discuss summer courses, even though advisors are rated a key source of information. Also, summer courses are taken primarily to fulfill major and LSP requirements, particularly for business, biology and psychology majors with many students citing living at home free with parents as the primary reason that they choose to take courses elsewhere. Our primary recommendations include: Publishing the summer catalogue earlier, having academic advisors discuss the option, and offering more summer courses online.
