Mission Accomplished?: The Experiences of Past and Present Female Orchestral Clarinetists
For decades, it has been difficult for women to be taken seriously when pursuing music careers. Women of the past and present have struggled to be allowed to obtain, to flourish in and to be regarded as equals in careers as performers, composers, and teachers. The research for this presentation will provide an overview for context, and then focus on the experiences of female clarinetists in orchestras, drawing on accounts from past and present musicians. What has changed for the better? What has stayed the same or gotten worse?
