A Morphosyntactic Investigation of Harari

Harari is a South Ethio-Semitic language spoken in Ethiopia, it is related to Amharic and Ge’ez. The Semitic languages are in the larger Afro-Asiatic language phylum. This research further examines previous descriptions by Leslau (1965), focusing on the system of postpositions when used with one or more nouns. Postpositions in this language are intra-word morphemes, added to nouns which either denote location or are relevant to the adpositional phrase. Additionally, the conjunctive relations of (-)wa and enclitics are discussed further. Data was collected through elicitation sessions with a native Harari speaker.
