Explaining Gun Violence in Developed Countries

Thousands of individuals in countries around the world, even developed ones, are victims of firearm violence. The United States has one of the highest death rates by firearm of all countries, when compared to other developed nations as well as the rest of the countries in the world. The purpose of this research is to figure out what is the main factor that affects firearm-related deaths in developed countries. If the root causes are identified, then policy prescriptions would allow these developed countries to respond and lower these death rates. The main hypothesis to be tested will analyze how a country having a low level of gun control increases the firearm death rate. After running a regression model statistical analysis using the top thirty-nine developed countries, it is determined that low levels of gun control and increased gun ownership in a nation greatly increase the rate of death by firearms.
