The Relationship Among Music Performance Anxiety, Perfectionism, and Mindfulness-Based Meditation Practices in Collegiate Music Students.
In this study, we will examine the relationship between music performance anxiety (MPA) and perfectionism. We will also examine mindfulness-based meditation practices as a possible mediator for MPA symptoms in collegiate music students. Our goal is to foster a deeper understanding of the relationship among music performance anxiety, perfectionism, and mindfulness-based meditation in the hope that a greater understanding of MPA and techniques that may mediate its symptoms can normalize these experiences for collegiate music students and overcome the stigma associated with music performance anxiety. The methods used will include an IRB-approved survey on Google Forms consisting of questions from Kenny’s Performance Anxiety Inventory (K-PAI), Frost’s Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, and questions inquiring about the respondent’s mindfulness-based meditation practice habits. There will also be screening questions at the beginning of the survey to determine various types of diversity such as race, ethnicity, and gender identity of the population we are surveying.
