An Assessment of the Needs of Non-Native Speakers of English at Truman
Lukin T. Murphy
Dr. Sally Cook, Faculty Mentor
Truman boasts a diverse population of international students, most of whom are non-native speakers of English. These students must overcome many linguistic and cultural obstacles in order to succeed at an academically demanding institution of higher learning. The resources available to these students are constantly changing because partially because their specific needs are not known. The results of a campus wide survey of international students coupled with an investigation of what resources are currently available to assist non-native speakers at Truman may shed some light on what can be done to aid in their academic success.
