A list of Missouri hospital administration names and email contact information was created. From this list, one administrator from each hospital was selected, to receive the survey. March 2020, an email was sent to each hospital nursing administrator explaining the study and requesting their participation. Once affirming participation, the hospital nursing administrator was sent the online survey tool via email. A follow-up email was sent to all, thanking those who had responded, and reminding non-respondents to complete the online survey. The survey platform was SurveyMonkey®. The survey tool was created to assess the following categories: two-step gender identity collection, identification of chosen name and pronoun, use of a functional EMR system to allow chosen name and pronoun, gender identity, and whether the hospital includes staff training on all of the categories previously mentioned. The survey was anonymous and took approximately 3 minutes to complete. Analysis of data began March 2020.
