An Analysis of the O’Connell Effect in the Eclipsing Binary KID 11560447
We present an analysis of the short period (P = 0.5276790d) eclipsing binary system KID 11560447. KID 11560447 is classified as a beta-Lyrae type variable in SIMBAD (Wenger, M. et al.) and as an Algol-type variable on AAVSO's Variable Star Index (VSX). These contradicting classifications could potentially be caused by consistent variation in the light curve as a function of time, as well as the O’Connell Effect which quantifies the light curve asymmetries. Through fitting a Fourier series onto Kepler data, we investigate the trends in these variations and asymmetries over a timespan of four years.
