Dr. Jocelyn S. Prendergast , Faculty Mentor
As traditional orchestral and academic positions in music become increasingly scarce, many musicians look to entrepreneurship as a solution. However, music entrepreneurship is not a new phenomenon. In this presentation I will be examining the musical entrepreneurs which emerged in the 15th century in both sacred and secular music. Musicians in the 21st century can learn a great deal from the methods and skills these medieval musicians put to use to create new employment opportunities in an emerging merchant class.
