Attitudes About Sexual Assault at Truman

Rape and sexual assault have always been issues in our society. College campuses seem to be a prevalent environment for these crimes, yet Truman does not require students to learn what rape and sexual assault are, or how to prevent them. The goal of this research was to see if students who had taken a course (not sponsored by the University) about rape and sexual assault would respond as less likely to accept rape myths. Members in Greek life were also compared to non-member responses to evaluate if current Greek Life programs are effective, and results were compared by gender as well. Acceptance or rejection of rape myths was used to evaluate if Truman should implement a mandatory program for all students to educate them about rape and sexual assault. The results concluded Truman needs such a program, or at the very least more research should be done.
