Exercise: A Neglected Activity
Nasreen Amaanath
Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor

Despite all the benefits that can be achieved from exercising, The National Center for Health Statistics reports that roughly 30% of American adults say they exercise during their leisure time, while 40% of them report to not exercising at all (National). Not only can being a couch potato increase your medical bills, promote diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic condition, it can also increase your likelihood of dying earlier (Owen). Today, majority of the jobs do not require a lot of intense physical activity. People are becoming accustomed to driving their cars to almost any place they travel to. I have rarely seen many people walk long distance via foot to get from one location to the next even if its only five minutes away. Exercising is one of the simplest and easiest ways to prevent chronic diseases, lose weight, improve overall quality of life, fight depression, increase happiness, and achieve much more.
