The Evolution of the Drumset: A brief overview of the people and places associated with its development

The drumset is a fairly recent invention, and has been evolving since it was first introduced 150 years ago. During this time there have been a number of influential musicians who have assisted in giving the drumset a standard place in our musical culture, with a little help from the phenomena of time and space. This project will examine the evolution of the drumset and the rhythms created for this instrument from the 1880s to present day. The presentation will include a PowerPoint slideshow, musical examples, and a handout will be available to attendees.
