Influence of Respondents Number of Sexual Partners on the Individuals Desired Age of Marriage

Using a sample of Truman State University students (N = 218), this study examines whether the number of sexual partners a person has affects the age at which they want to get married. The purpose of this study is to gain insight on premarital sexual intercourse among adolescents and predict future marriage patterns. Those patterns can influence the number of people continuing onto higher education, divorce rates, and even mortality rates of children to young parents. A survey comprised of 16 questions was administered to students ages 18 and over in courses pre-approved by professors of various departments. Results reveal that there is no significant correlation between the number of sexual partners and the age at which one wishes to be married. However, a sample t-test did reveal that there is a statistically significant relationship between a students academic year and the age that they wish to be married.
