Feminism in a Racist Society: Rejecting Societal Norms in the film The Help

The film The Help is based on the Civil Rights movement and the feminist beginning of the 1960s, and focuses on racism faced by African- American women. This essay will bring light to the importance of women in the household and the contributions they made to society. Additionally, it investigates how the children and Caucasian women were raised in an entitled society. The 1960s was a trying time for many women in America, it paved the way for new feminist beginnings. It also gave a better understanding of how the upbringing influences who people become. Through a feminist lens, this essay will dissect the roles of women and reveal the important roles that they played in The Help. The ways in which Caucasian children were raised is also explored through the impact that made them the people they would become.
