Delay Circuit for Easy Alignments in Quantum Optics Experiments

A Hanbury Brown - Twiss interferometer is used to investigate the correlated nature of photon pairs generated via spontaneous parametric down-conversion in the nonlinear crystal Beta Barium Borate (BBO). Statistics at the outputs of a 50/50 beamsplitter measure the degree of second order coherence. The quantum nature of light is verified by a violation of the classical limit of the degree of second order coherence. A circuit has been developed for the easy alignment of the detection system, which provides adjustable nanosecond delay for three photon detectors. In the future, this system will be used to aid in undergraduate education on the particle nature of light.
