Dear Body: A Photographic Exploration of Body Image
Lydia J. Frank
Prof. Priya S. Kambli, Faculty Mentor
Dear Body is the visual counterpart to a creative prose poem I wrote several months ago, after which the idea of a multi-medium, self-collaboration project emerged, and this body of photographs started to coalesce. Having struggled with self-worth and body image for years, and having known others dealing with the same issues, I want to give people the opportunity to see their bodies in a new way. Each photograph in this work consists of the self-identified best or worst physical feature of the subject. I have chosen not to share which features the subjects designated as which, in an attempt to examine the difference between how we see ourselves and how we are seen by others. My hope is that in viewing this work, you will not only consider the bodies of the people in these photographs, but that you will begin to see your own body differently as well.
