Dr. Jay W. Self, Faculty Mentor
This paper will examine correlations between candidate rhetoric in Iowa and reasons caucus-goers cite for supporting particular candidates, further evidenced by poll results and the outcome of the 2012 Iowa Caucus. We will look at what rhetoric caucus-goers find persuasive and look for themes. Research will be done in Iowa by soliciting feedback at campaign events in Iowa before the caucus. This, along with an analysis of polling data, we may be able to discern which rhetorical appeals were pivotal in Iowans decision-making process.
