The Quality of Revision through Conference-Based Peer Review

This action research describes the effect of conference-based peer review on the quality of student revisions. The research examines the writing of freshman students within a rural school district who, throughout the course of the semester, worked on developing their competence in the writing process. The specific focus of this research was the change in the quality of revisions when made using conference-based peer review strategy as opposed to unstructured peer-editing. Student work focused on developing their writing in the form of multiparagraph essays. After using the initial structure of peer-editing, students were taught how to perform structured, conference-based peer reviews in order to create more quality revision to papers through the writing process. The goal of this paper is to display the benefits of using a conference-based peer review system as opposed to peer-editing.
