A Bitter Sweet Friendship: The Origins of Anabaptism as a Result of the End of Ulrich Zwingli's and Conrad Grebel's Friendship

Although many non-Anabaptist reformers of the 1500s condemned the Anabaptist movement, its origins in Switzerland were not that different from the ideas preached by Ulrich Zwingli. In the 1520s Conrad Grebel was converted to the cause of the Swiss Reformation by the preaching of Zwingli, and the two became close friends. By 1525 however, the two had broken from each other. That year Grebel performed the first "re-baptism" starting the Anabaptist movement and causing the final break from Zwingli and the relatively more accepted Swiss Reformation.
