Jeremy E. Mapp♦
Dr. Wendy Miner, Faculty Mentor

A study was conducted to examine student comprehension of fourth-grade book sets versus self-selected texts. This study surveyed fourth-grade students in a public school district in St. Louis County. A time on task log of the students focus and attention during reading was recorded. Students also completed a reading comprehension worksheet once they completed their respective books. Answers on the comprehension worksheet were scored and the students were categorized as having strong, average, or limited comprehension skills. Time on task was averaged and the students were categorized as highly, moderately, or slightly off task.
