Midwestern High School Level IV Gifted Program: A Program Review
Adam D. Barbee♦
Dr. Wendy Miner, Faculty Mentor
After researching students abilities within their district, a Midwestern School District found they had a disproportionate number of students walking their hallways who were highly gifted. This Midwestern School District then re-organized their gifted services into a four-tiered program which was in its second year of implementation. A program review was conducted of the Midwestern high schools Level IV Gifted program by gathering data from surveys, focus groups, and observations of stakeholders. The data was then analyzed to assess if current practices were in line with the 2010 Pre-K through Grade 12 standards developed by the National Association for Gifted Children. The results of the program review indicated that the Level Four Gifted Program exceeded expectations in the Learning Environments standard, but needed to clarify programming goals and objectives with stakeholders including: students, parents, and teachers.
