Sustaining the Human Dignity of Biotechnology: A Plausible Cause?
Carolina Scalzo
Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor

In the wave of technological advances inundating society, the ethics of such advances in the fields of medicine and reproduction divide society. Upon reading scholarly journals and articles displaying the views of the public, the findings are alarming. Historically, America fosters a strong disfavor towards biotechnology. Yet, paired with proper regulation biotechnology serves as a tool that sustains human dignity. Practices such as stem-cell research and cloning suffer criticism that ignores their potential. In order to satisfy society's ethical demands, scientists need only innovate how these practices are utilized, while governments must adjust the regulations to eliminate dishonesty. Only then can biotechnology thrive rendering ethical questions moot in face of progress.
