Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor
Arundhati Roy's novel The God of Small Things examines the power politics that influences women's lives within the family and social situations. For example, Ammu is forced to choose between her father's name or her ex-husband's when she divorces. Women are oppressed by class and caste standards, presided over by the ingrained class and caste systems present in India. This paper will explore the ways in which the novel confronts the oppression of women and how this oppression affects women's lives.
