Truman State University Students' Attitudes Toward Others Who Are Consuming Alcohol

High risk drinking behavior is an important issue to consider when planning health programs on college campuses. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism [NIAAA] (2007), 19% of college students ages 18-24 met the criteria for alcohol abuse or dependence. In an effort to reduce alcohol abuse and dependence, Truman State University participates in Missouri's Partners in Prevention (MOPIP). This coalition of 12 Missouri Universities conducts a risk behavior survey every year. This research adapted the MOPIP instrument to include specific questions that addressed students' attitudes toward others who are consuming alcohol. The purpose of this study is to explore these attitudes among Truman State University students (n= 234). The data will be analyzed and interpreted so results may be used to produce social norms messages on campus.
