Crystal and Molecular Structures of Pesticides
James E. Brown
Dr. Russell G. Baughman, Faculty Mentor
As part of an NSF-sponsored summer undergraduate research program (STEP) at Truman State University, the crystal and three-dimensional structures of Oxcarboxine, Gibberilic Acid, Chloramben Ethyl Ester, and a Simazine derivative were determined by X-Ray diffraction. Intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonds are observed in all four compounds; in most cases the molecular structures were affected. Consequently each molecule's reactivity is altered from what one might have predicted from a structural drawing or a model kit.
