David Holsinger's Havendance: An Analytical Discussion

David Holsinger is an important composer in the American band tradition. His compositions are characterized by unrelenting tempos, irregular melodies, and high emotional impact. This paper provides a short history of Holsingers life and his composition, Havendance, as well as performance practices applied to the work. Particular attention will be given to an in depth analysis of the work into the emotional content of this high energy piece.
