We Cannot Feed Our Cows Oil: An Analysis of Corn Price Increases
Daniel W. Campbell*, Garett T. Boatright, and Michael J. Davis
Dr. David Gillette, Faculty Mentor

Due to recent energy shortages and policy demands, researchers are now exploring alternative sources of energy. One popular source has been corn-based ethanol. An increase in corn prices accompanies the increased demand for this type of ethanol, and an econometric analysis shows the main driving force behind these price increases has been increased ethanol production. As the demand for corn-based ethanol continues to increase, rising corn prices could have adverse effects on other industries involving corn inputs.
