Purpose: This study aimed to determine a relationship across BIA machine methodologies based on the parameters of sex, age, height, and weight.

Methods: 34 college students (19 females,15 males) aged 20-23 were measured for percent fat on 17 different models of BIA machines. All measurements were taken for each individual subject on the same day. Data were analyzed with separate linear regressions.

Results: Regression yielded standardized beta coefficients for sex, age, height, and weight. Averaging coefficients across methodologies produced the regression equation BIA= (-0.44)x*(sex) + (-0.01)x*(age) + (-0.45)x*(height) + (0.73)x*(weight). Standard deviations of the average standardized beta coefficients of sex, age, height, and weight were ± 0.24, ± 0.05, ± 0.16, and ± 0.31, respectively.

Conclusion: Based on the evaluation of the standardized beta coefficients, weight had an overall strong effect on BIA, while height and sex had moderate effects.
