Test Re-test Reliability of Truman Tenkey Cognitive Function Test

Cognitive function is known to decline in the presence of environmental stressors (e.g., heat, cold, altitude), sleep deprivation, noise distraction, and other factors. A highly-sensitive test is needed to detect small changes, and for practical purposes this test should be low-cost and easily administered in a wilderness setting. The researchers developed a proposed instrument for this purpose (Truman Tenkey test) which required participants to add single- and double-digit numbers in their head and enter the sum on a numeric keypad. Test re-test scores indicate a significant correlation between trials, while comparison to participants' general and math ACT scores was not significant. These results indicate the Truman Tenkey test is reliable, but measures different cognitive skills than the ACT test.
