A Far Finer Thing than Unchallenged Supreme Good

Since ancient times, many famous philosophers have attempted to prove or disprove the existence of a wholly good and omnipotent Creator. Scottish philosopher, David Hume, published an incredibly powerful argument known as the problem of evil; an argument whose conclusion is that God cannot coexist with evil. Over time, David Humes work attracted several responses. After his life, Hume was not able to continue defending his argument. Nevertheless, Australian philosopher J.L. Mackie would continue the conversation through his publication Evil and Omnipotence (1955), which responded to popular rebuttals to Humes work. This paper responds to one of the arguments presented in Mackies work through thought experiments and evidence from psychological studies.
