"Bean Soup" and Other Poems
Perrin C. Carrell
Prof. Mark Spitzer, Faculty Mentor

This is a compilation of poems done by Perrin Carrell, an English major, who has completed four creative writing courses through English 504: Advanced Creative Writing. Some of the poems have survived several classes and workshops. Others were written specifically to compliment the rest of the poems in the compilation and were revised based on the advice of faculty mentor, Professor Mark Spitzer. The poems emphasize simple language, usually have a narrow focus, and use sporadic doses of humor as a gateway into deeper ideas, which are often hidden at first glance. The content varies from the routine to the fantastic, though most are meditative in tone. The presentation will be in the format of a poetry reading with a short analysis of process, idea, content or technique given with each poem.
