The Current State of The United States Housing Market
The U.S. housing market is going through a period of extreme change, driven by many factors. Our paper will look at the rising impact of inflation, focusing on the rise of construction costs and the effect of inflation across income brackets. Along with this, it will look at the constrained supply in the construction industry and how it is made worse by zoning regulations and land availability struggles. The growing presence of institutional investors in the single family home market will also be studied. Looking at the effect this has on rising rental prices and less opportunities for homebuyers. By examining the combined effects of inflation, supply constraints, and rise of corporate ownership of housing, our paper aims to explain the changing dynamics of the U.S. housing market and what it means for future homeowners and renters.
