Adam Barker*, Micaela Merrill, Will Schatz, and Samuel Tillman
Dr. Brian X. Kubin, Faculty Mentor

In this presentation, we will examine the compositional techniques used in the fourth movement of the String Quartet in C major, Op. 59, No. 3 by Ludwig van Beethoven. The work was composed during his middle period and it is from a set of quartets dedicated to the Russian Count Andreas Rasumowsky. This final movement is a fugue, and we will briefly discuss the basic elements of the fugue and demonstrate the structural and contrapuntal techniques used by the composer. The presentation will conclude with a performance of the movement.
