IARFC National Financial Plan Competition

Gracie Trokey* and Tom Bindbeutel
Prof. Charles Boughton, Faculty Mentor

The International Association of Registered Financial Consultants hosts an annual financial planning competition open to undergraduate students across the nation. Representing Truman State University for the first time, Tom Bindbeutel and Gracie Trokey along with competitors have prepared an extensive financial plan for fictional clients affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The study includes research among twelve interconnected categories of a family’s financial plan and how financial advisors can help their clients in times of uncertainty. The student advisors review key areas such as income taxes, retirement planning, estate planning, business succession planning, insurance coverage, etc. The top four student teams participating in the third and final round of the competition will present their financial plan to one of the board of directors at IARFC and his wife, playing the roles of the fictional couple.
