The Publicity Art of Hamlet

Priscilla Parisa
Dr. Dana Smith, Faculty Mentor

For a theatrical production, an advertisement is the first thing that a potential audience sees. The role of publicity is to present a visual story to potential audience which ultimately leads to a call to buy tickets. An art that celebrates other arts, publicity art draws its inspiration from the other design departments and lends its ears heavily on the directorial approach and dramaturgy. From posters to social media video, it seeks out audiences across different platforms and becomes the face of the collective effort between faculty, theatre, music, and graphic design majors that is Hamlet. This particular advertisement has also represented Truman State University to the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region 5 Festival 49 in Des Moine and won the regional poster and publicity award.
