How Dyslexia Shaped My Family
Matthew C. Jones
Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor

In the academic world, disabilities are treated as either a blockade that must be accommodated for or as an obstacle that a student can manage and overcome. Diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia in grade school, my brother had to modify the approach he took to learning to overcome challenges that occurred while reading and writing. Working though his frustrations, my family assisted my brother?s efforts to manage his dyslexia and dysgraphia through countless hours of practicing reading and writing. He overcame many obstacles to develop his learning abilities and strengthen his academic skills.
